Dean Torrence was a founding member of the 1960s hit-making duo, Jan & Dean, who had 15 Top 40 hits including the #1 smash “Surf City.”
Dean majored in advertising design at USC’s School of Architecture and founded his own graphic arts company, Kittyhawk Graphics in 1967. He has designed hundreds of album covers and logos for the likes of The Beach Boys, Diana Ross & The Supremes, Steve Martin, Linda Ronstadt and more. Torrence won a Grammy® for Album Cover of The Year in 1971 for the eponymous album by Pollution.
Dean was instrumental in convincing elected officials to name his hometown of Huntington Beach, CA as “Surf City USA” in 2006.
