1970s CBGB and Max’s Kansas City staples. Lead Singer Lance Loud and his family were chronicled on the world’s first “reality TV” show—1973’s An American Family. Loud is credited as the first continuing character on television who was openly gay, and eventually became a columnist for The Advocate. Mumps members have worked and played with Patti Smith Group, Iggy Pop, Klaus Nomi, Ann Magnuson, and more.
