Texas Country Music Hall of Fame inductee and winner of the Poet’s Award from the Academy of Country Music. “Live Forever” (co-written with his son, Eddy) is sung by Robert Duvall in the Oscar®-winning film Crazy Heart. The song was also covered by The Highwaymen and Joe Ely. His Grammy®-nominated 2007 release Everybody’s Brother featured Johnny Cash, Kris Kristofferson, Tanya Tucker, Randy Scruggs, Marty Stuart, and more. Shaver’s voice is heard on the theme songs to Adult Swim’s Squidbillies. Served as Spiritual Advisor to Texas independent gubernatorial candidate Kinky Friedman.
