Texas songwriter extraordinaire, composer of “If I Needed You,” “To Live Is to Fly,” and “Pancho & Lefty.” His song “Pancho & Lefty,” recorded by Willie Nelson and Merle Haggard, hit #1 on the country charts in 1983. Townes’ version of The Rolling Stones “Dead Flowers” was featured in the film The Big Lebowski. Appeared in the 1975 documentary film Heartworn Highways with Guy Clark, Steve Earle, David Allan Coe, and others. Everyone from Robert Plant & Alison Krauss to Devendra Banhart, Bob Dylan, and Michael Kiwanuka have covered his songs.
