Two tracks from the acclaimed film Harry Dean Stanton: Partly Fiction
on a collectble 7″ picture disc with a movie poster!
The career and legacy of Harry Dean Stanton are explored in Harry Dean Stanton: Partly Fiction, a documentary directed by Sophie Huber, that has been screened at over 20 festivals, both internationally and in the U.S. (including its stateside premiere at SXSW in 2013). It documents the iconic actor in his intimate moments and features film clips, as well as Stanton performing his own heart-breaking renditions of country and folk songs. The film explores Stanton’s enigmatic outlook on his life and showcases his unexpected musical gifts, with commentary and appearances by David Lynch, Wim Wenders, Sam Shepard, Kris Kristofferson, and Deborah Harry.
Omnivore Recordings, in conjunction with Adopt Films, is pleased to bring Stanton’s musical talents to light with a special release for Record Store Day, 2014.
This 7″ picture disc contains two tracks from the film—both performed by Harry Dean Stanton with Jamie James. The A-side features “Tennessee Whiskey,” a cover of the 1983 George Jones hit. The flip is a new version of “Canción Mixteca,” the Mexican folk song Stanton originally recorded with Ry Cooder for 1984’s Paris, Texas (winner of the Palme d’Or at the 1984 Cannes Film Festival and directed by Wenders).
Just as Harry Dean Stanton has married image and music to create unforgettable big screen characters, this single will appeal to movie and music fans, as well as soundtrack collectors. The picture disc is being released specially for Record Store Day, 2014 in advance of the full Omnivore Recordings soundtrack. This single is a taste of the film Harry Dean Stanton: Partly Fiction, a portrait of one of the world’s greatest artists of sight, and now, sound!
