We’ve really appreciated your patience over the past month or so since we opened the web store. We’ve been modifying and tweaking it, and trying to figure out the best ways get music directly to you! You’ll now notice that we’ve added Media Mail as an option for our U.S. customers and we can now ship internationally. You’d think that making these changes would be easy but frankly, nothing is easy! We’re very sensitive to how much it costs to ship packages (we buy a lot of records ourselves) and we’ve been trying to find the very best rates. Again, thank you for your patience in this matter!

Free Again: The “1970″ Sessions are the first solo recordings from a post-Box Tops/pre-Big Star Alex Chilton. The album, mixed and engineered by Terry Manning, will be released as a 20-track CD featuring six previously unreleased songs, and 12-track LP.

As our first webstore exclusive, we are releasing 500 copies of Big Star’s Third pressed on 180-grm clear vinyl. Same awesome cut and pressing as the black vinyl Record Store Day version, same cool inserts, same cool packaging—a second bite of the apple for those who got shut out on Record Store Day!

On October 11 we’ll have another slice of ’70s soul/R&B/funk with the CD & LP release of Together Forever: The Music City Sessions by The Two Things In One. This group of Bay Area teenagers released several local hit singles during their time and are still together today—all original members!

During the years 1970 to 1975, few artists in rock were hotter or had more going on in their music careers than Leon Russell. After having started playing piano professionally in his teens in his native Oklahoma, Leon (birth name Claude Russell Bridges) trekked out to Los Angeles by the early Sixties and soon became one of the most in-demand recording session players in Hollywood.

On August 16, we will release our very first digital-only film score to the cool Ken Kesey documentary Magic Trip: Ken Kesey’s Search For A Kool Place. The score is by David Kahne and some of the tracks include spoken word passages by Kesey himself.

27, where genius goes to die. She was remarkable because she was real. Raw, ragged, tough, frightened, beautiful, not to mention fiercely talented. The fact that it seemed all but inevitable, makes it no less tragic. Our consolation is the hope that she now has found peace. Our gratitude is for all she left behind.
