We hope everyone had a great Record Store Day! This was our second one, and it went swimmingly with Buck Owens Coloring Book EP and The Knack Live In Los Angeles, 1978 10″ selling out across the country. Thank you all for your support. And, just so you understand the method to our madness, those titles we picked for RSD were not random at all.

In fact, it’s tomorrow, Saturday, April 21st. Record Store Day means quite a bit to us here at Omnivore, as RSD 2011 saw our first releases hit the street — Big Star’s Third and Buck Owens’ “Close Up The Honky Tonks” b/w “My Heart Skips A Beat.” Both sold out within hours, and we were both proud and grateful that we had put out releases people really dug. If you weren’t lucky enough to get one of the 1,300 Buck singles last year—we’re happy to announce that the tracks are now available digitally at the Omnivore shop, or wherever fine digital music is sold!

We couldn’t be happier that not one, but two of Omnivore’s releases from 2011 have been nominated in the 11th Independent Music Awards for Album Reissue! Big Star Third and The Motels Apocalypso are up for awards in the Reissue category. Two of the six nominees are Omnivore Recordings projects! Double cool!

As you can imagine, it makes us all very happy to open up our copy of Billboard today and read about our upcoming Record Store Day releases! Take a look for yourself.

Thank you Jellyfish fans! We are completely sold out of the first run of colored vinyl of both Spilt Milk and Bellybutton! We hope your turntables are happy! The stock 180-gram black vinyl editions are being manufactured now. These will be unlimited pressings, and we’ll let you know when they are available.

Today is Ernie Kovac’s birthday! And to celebrate, we’re very excited to announce our partnership with Ediad Productions to release all audio material from the archive of the estates of legendary comedian Ernie Kovacs and Tony-Award winning singer/entertainer Edie Adams. This announcement comes as a birthday gift to Kovacs fans as today would have been his 93rd birthday. Post a birthday remembrance via social media and sign off with one of his signature phrases, “It’s Been Real.”

Why Omnivore, that’s who! Vinyl does rule and you folks are helping us preach the gospel. Thanks to all of you, we saw Jellyfish hit #11 with Spilt Milk and lucky #13 with Bellybutton. The awesome Alex Chilton hit #15 with Free Again: The “1970” Sessions.

Wait, I thought Jellyfish only released two albums. That is correct, but in Omnivore’s quest for the perfect pressing to honor those releases, we scrapped an entire run of finished goods. They were ready to ship. But, beforehand, we played them and said “No way, can’t do it like this,” and had them redone to be the stellar, beautiful, and audiolicious copies available now.
