If you’re at SXSW next week, be sure to see the work-in-progress screening of Nothing Can Hurt Me: The Big Star Story. If you’ve not seen the trailer yet, check it out here.

Following the screening will be an incredible live performance of Third with an all-star band comprised of not only Big Star’s Jody Stephens and the dB’s Chris Stamey, but also Mike Mills and Peter Buck from R.E.M., Mitch Easter of Let’s Active, as well as Jon Auer and Ken Stringfellow of The Posies. Who knows who else will turn up? This ensemble will also be accompanied by a string section. A special night indeed!

So this is probably going to be last call on a few of the Big Star and Alex Chilton webstore exclusives. We have a few of the Big Star Third [Test Pressing Edition] clear vinyl sets left. There were only 500 made. We are also running low on the Alex Chilton vinyl bundle which includes the already sold out clear vinyl LP plus a bonus 7″ single. Check out the shop for those plus we are now taking pre-orders on both the Alex Chilton’s Free Again: The “1970″ Sessions on black vinyl, and Jellyfish Bellybutton and Spilt Milk on 180-gram black vinyl. These will be in stock shortly.

We couldn’t be happier that not one, but two of Omnivore’s releases from 2011 have been nominated in the 11th Independent Music Awards for Album Reissue! Big Star Third [Test Pressing Edition] and The Motels Apocalypso are up for awards in the Reissue category. Two of the six nominees are Omnivore Recordings projects! Double cool!

If that isn’t crazy cool enough, Big Star Third [Test Pressing Edition] picks up a second nod for Album Packaging designed by none other than Omnivore’s very own Greg Allen!
